Aquarium ProductsFiltration MediaHR Carbon
HR Carbon is a highly retentive carbon which is the result of several years development and testing in freshwater and marine aquariums. It is made from carefully selected grades of bituminous coal, ensuring that a consistent quality is maintained. Recommended for the removal of organics and other toxic substances which gradually build up in marine and freshwater aquariums. Removes phenols and other organic compounds. Unlike many cheaper carbons it does not add any phosphates. Creates crystal clear water allowing better light penetration for maximum plant and coral growth. Use approximately 1g/litre of system water. Change approximately every three weeks depending on loading. Before use, rinse carbon thoroughly in a fine net to remove any dust created during transportation. TMC Bio-Rings
1" (210m2/m3) and 1 1/2" (130m2/m3) Bio-Rings have excellent flow through characteristics, making them ideal for trickle filter applications. Designed to give a large, accessible surface area which is easily contacted by the water (usually falling downwards) and gas, whilst avoiding clogging. Made from blue polypropylene. Positively buoyant. Kaldness Biofilm Carrier Media
Ideal for intensive bio-filtration applications and ideally suited for use in moving bed bio-filters. Elements are 7mm long and 10mm in diameter. Made from natural polyethylene. Positively buoyant. Surface area 830m2/m3. Zeolite
A naturally occurring mineral rock, found in volcanic rock deposits. Its microcrystalline structure and its surface charge provide advanced filtration properties. An effective media for the removal of ammonia from freshwater recirculating systems, aquaria and transport vehicles. It also provides a large surface area for nitrifying
bacteria. This media will eventually reach saturation pint and will need to be regenerated. Use 1 gram of zeolite for every 1.5mg of ammonia to be removed. Particle size range 1.6 - 2.2 mm Bio-Glass
Made from natural silicate. Pore diameter ranges from 60 to 300 microns. No toxins - harmless to aquatic species. Provides a very large surface area compared to ordinary bio-rings. Suitable for both aerobic nitrifying bacteria and anaerobic denitrifying bacteria. Suitable for freshwater and saltwater applications. We strongly recommend that bio-glass is used together with mechanical filtration. Oolitic Sand & Gravel
Available in five different particle sizes, including our specially graded uniform particle size sand for fluidised sand bed filters. Ideal as both a mechanical and a high surface area biological filter media. Surface area > 10,000m2/m3. Natural Aragonite. AFM Media
Advanced Filtration Media. Available in three different particle sizes depending on the application's requirements. AFM back-flushes with much less water than traditional sand. AFM media's smooth surface makes it very difficult for bacteria to colonise. (Normal filter sand has a rough microscopic surface, which is the perfect environment to attract bacteria. Sand is also prone to becoming coated in fats, lipids and other contaminants. Build up of the fats and bacteria can cause sand bed packing and channeling. When this occurs, filtration efficiency effectively drops to zero). |
