Sander Piccolo Protein Skimmer

This is suitable for sea water aquariums up to 100 litres and offers:-

Good protein foam production

Removal of toxic protein compounds

How Does It Work? - A wooden air stone diffuses the air into very small air bubbles. While the air bubbles rise through the water they remove protein waste from the water. The waste foam is produced above the water level and then rises through the foam tube into the collection cup. In this way, waste particles and toxic compounds are totally removed from the aquarium, which is  the essential difference between this and other forms of biological filtration.

Sander Maxi-Skim Protein Skimmers models 200, 300, 400 and 500

These skimmers are suitable for salt water aquariums up to 150 litres (33 imperial gallons) and model required depends on depth of water in the aquarium. The longer the skimmer's contact tube, the more efficient the unit will be.

How Do They Work? - The water enters the skimmer through the inflow holes into the reaction tube, and is led from the top to the bottom. A wooden air stone diffuses the air into very small air bubbles. While the air bubbles rise through the water they remove protein from the water. The waste foam is produced above the water level and then rises through the foam tube into the collection cup. In this way, waste particles and toxic compounds are totally removed from the aquarium. By an air-lift system the purified water is pumped back to the aquarium through the outflow tube.

Replacement wooden air diffusers are available for all the above units.

Sander Power Skimmers, models WT350, WT450 and WT550

This range of skimmers is suitable for use inside aquariums of up to 250 litres and should only be operated in conjunction with a water pump or an air pump plus water pump.

The model required depends on depth of water in the aquarium. The longer the contact tube, the more efficient the unit will be:-

How Does It Work? - This unit is a powerful skimmer for installation inside the aquarium or within sump tanks. It is equipped with an injector (venturi) which sucks air in, mixing it with water and producing small air bubbles. Therefore, neither an air pump or air stones are needed, which is the most efficient form of operation.

The connected water pump should have a capacity of 1200 litres per hour with a pressure of 3.3 mWc (0.16psi). Alternatively a smaller water pump can be used in conjunction with the included air stones and an air pump.

The new design of foam collection cup means that it can be easily removed and its large volume means it has to be cleaned out less frequently. The waste foam is produced above the water level and then rises through the foam tube into the collection cup. In this way, waste particles and toxic compounds are totally removed from the aquarium.

Sander External Power Skimmers, models AH400, AH500 and AH600

This range of skimmers is suitable for use outside aquariums of up to 250 litres and should only be operated in conjunction with a water pump and or air pump plus water pump. Model required depends on outside height of the aquarium. The longer the contact tube, the more efficient the unit will be.

Sander Compact Skim Protein Skimmer

This venturi operated skimmer is suitable for aquariums of up to 500 litres (110 imperial gallons) and is especially designed for installation under the aquarium.

The unit features a compact yet high volume reaction chamber allowing for extremely difficult skimming compared with equivalently rated units from other manufacturers.

Pump Required: The unit is supplied with one 2280 litres per hour submersible water pump for re-circulation and operation of the venturi.

Dimensions: 450mm high x 450mm wide (inc valve)

Sander Skimmer Notes:

1) Size refers to water depth required to house the skimmer, e.g. WT 350 requires 350mm of water to operate.

2) Aquarium capacities. The rates given by Sander can be trebled, as they assume that the skimmer is the primary source of filtration.

3) For the power skimmers to work efficiently they need to be connected to a pump not a power head producing 1200 l/h at 3 psi. The Eheim Hobby (1060) pump works well with the power skimmers.

4) Power skimmers can be used with the wooden diffusers provided, and water pumped from a filter or power head, but they aren't as efficient as a skimmer using its own venturi.

5) The air driven skimmers should be set up in the aquarium with the water level at the top of the reactor tube, level with grid. The air supply to the wooden diffuser should be turned up high. Then the air tube should be turned up until the foam just stops fomiing at the water surface on the outside of the skimmer.

6) All the Sander skimmers are counter current, except the Piccolo. Counter current is a very efficient means of skimming. The water in the skimmer is drawn down the reactor tube through the rising column of bubbles produced by the diffuser or venturi.

7) All Sander skimmers have a foam condensing cone at the top of the reactor tube. This ensures that the foam is condensed and dry when collected, not just a cup of discoloured water.
