Tropical Marine Centre has just launched its new V²Skim Compact range of protein skimmers - the next generation of high performance protein skimmers which offers all the qualities of the award-winning V²Skim range but in a compact, space-saving hang-on design. There are three skimmers in the range: the V²Skim 200 Compact, the V²Skim 300 Compact and the V²Skim 500 Compact. The V²Skim 200 Compact has been designed specifically with the smaller aquarium in mind as its ultra slimline design allows it to be incorporated and discreetly hidden in any aquarium of up to 200 litres using the versatile mounting brackets included. The skimmer's unique design also ensures that all parts of the skimmer can be accessed for simple cleaning and maintenance and the integral pump ensures the optimum flow and perfect mixture of water and micro fine air bubbles. The V²Skim 300 Compact is suitable for aquariums up to 300 litres and the V²Skim 500 Compact is suitable for aquariums up to 500 litres and both of these "hang on the back" skimmers incorporate a space-saving integral pump and water intake system which ensures minimal visual impact on the aquarium whilst delivering the optimum flow and the perfect mixture of water and micro fine air bubbles. All units also incorporate a water level adjustment dial and an easy to remove collection cup for ease of cleaning and the RRPs on the 200, 300 and 500 skimmers are just £69.99, £99.99 and £129.99 respectively. Also just launched in this new range is the V²Skim Compact Surface Skimmer. In many aquariums a high percentage of accumulated dissolved proteins and waste material is found in the top few centimetres of the water which most conventional aquarium filters cannot process as they generally draw and filter the water from the lower levels of the aquarium. With the V²Skim Compact Surface Skimmer this problem can be easily resolved, ensuring optimum water quality in the aquarium. This Surface Skimmer is ideal for use with the V²Skim 300 and 500 Compact Skimmers and retails for just £16.99. 21st October 2009 - Tropical Marine Centre on Winning Form! Over the last couple of months, thousands of readers have been voting in Practical Fishkeeping Magazine's 2009 Readers' Poll to nominate their favourite shops and products. Tropical Marine Centre took the manufacturer’s awards for both the Winning Marine Product of the Year, which it won for its AquaRay Lighting Range, and for the Runner- Up Marine Product of the Year, with the V²Skim Protein Skimmer (which had won the award in 2006 and 2007). The widely anticipated AquaBeam 1000 HD Ultra is a solid state lighting "tile" which offers ultra high density lighting using custom optics. This unit also uses the latest and brightest generation of CREE® XR-E PowerLEDs available, specially selected for AquaRay products, making the AquaBeam 1000 suitable as an alternative to metal halides. The AquaBeam 1000 HD Ultra delivers high LUX and PAR values making it suitable for all marine setups including reef systems with LPS and SPS hard corals, yet it is compact enough (measuring just 20 x 20cm) to also be suitable for use in nano and other smaller tanks. This light unit has a minimum of 50,000 hours lamp life yet also offers low running costs and extremely low carbon emissions when in use, making it very environmentally friendly. The AquaBeam 1000 HD Ultra also offers cool running with low heat transfer to the aquarium water reducing the need for expensive cooling systems and making it suitable for installation in aquarium hoods. 
TMC is also shortly launching its AquaRay Control Unit which is compatible with all AquaBeam products and can be used to dim, time and control, easily recreating sunset, sunrise, daylight and moonlight phases. This compact, two channel controller will retail for just £79.99 and will be in the shops in September. The AquaBeam1000 HD Ultra will be available in Marine White (10 x 14,000K white LEDs) and Reef White (7 x 14,000K white LEDs and 3 x 50,000K blue LEDs), both available with and without an AquaRay Control Unit (RRPs £299.99 and £224.99 respectively).. 
An enhanced version of the popular AquaBeam 500 lighting strip, which incorporates a new style lens casing producing a wider-angle beam, will be released in all new packaging in October. The RRP on this unit is being reduced to just £94.99, a saving of £15 off the previous price. The new twin unit will remain at £179.99. A 'tile' version, for planted tanks and fish only tanks, in the new TMC AquaGro range - the GroBeam 1000 Natural Daylight – will also be launched shortly together with the matching single and twin Grobeam 500 Natural Daylight Lighting Strips. The PATS Awards are the only dedicated pet and aquatics awards judged exclusively by the trade so this is an excellent result for TMC who only launched the Starter Kit in mid March. Both Cranswick Pet Products (CPP) and Tropical Marine Centre (TMC) received a tremendous level of support and autonomy under Cranswick PLC, and this move aims to protect and develop further the successful business models that have been created. The buy-out places the new company, Cranswick Pet and Aquatics Ltd, in an even stronger financial position than previously enjoyed. To realise the acquisition, Chief Executive Derek Black and Managing Director of TMC Paul West secured financial backing from Lloyds Development Capital (LDC), the Midland's leading private equity provider, who commented that the business is one of the most secure they have ever invested in. Further investment also comes from incumbent bank Lloyds TSB, as well as from the senior management themselves, who have committed to a significant personal investment. Cranswick PLC is to remain a minority share holder in the business, retaining 5.5%, an interest which itself is testament to the confidence they have in Cranswick Pet and Aquatics Ltd's continuing, stand alone success. With the added help and support of the additional financial backing now secured, the business is well placed to target significant further growth. Key focuses will be product innovation, new channels to market, and continued expansion of export opportunities. On a 'day to day' level, there will be no significant changes. There will be no shift in direction or slowing in pace of the existing business plan. The management team and staff will remain the same, with no plans to cost-cut or rationalise. Even the bank details will not change.
