Latest News & Articles8th October 2004 - Salifert launches New Phosphate Killer
A reduced phosphate concentration will allow corals and coralline algae to grow much faster and reduce the occurrence of some toxic heavy metals, silicate and organics which are hard to remove by skimming or by using activated carbon. Salifert’s Phosphate Killer has a very high surface area on which phosphate can be adsorbed and it binds phosphate more strongly than most other phosphate removing products (such as those using aluminium oxide) and does not leach toxic aluminium. Salifert's Phosphate Killer is available in two sizes: 250ml and 1000ml. 8th October 2004 - 6th Title in Marine Fish Families Series Is Now Available From TMC Publishing
The sixth book in TMC Publishing’s "Marine Fish Families" series has just been published. "Basslets, Hamlets and Their Relatives – A Comprehensive Guide to Selected Serranidae and Plesiopidae" is another stunning identification guide, this time covering some of the most colourful fishes on the reef. Over 60 genera and 100s of species are covered in this book including most species known as Bass or Basslets, Hamlets and the related Soapfishes and Seaperches, plus similar groups that include the Grammas, Longfins, Blue Devils, Hulafishes and Scissortails. This 216 page book by Rudie H Kuiter is comprehensively illustrated with 100s of spectacular underwater photographs, many published for the first time, and includes information on behaviour, habitats, colour morphs and basic aquarium requirements. There are picture index pages for visual quick-find of genera and a comprehensive index of common and scientific names of families, genera and species. TMC Publishing (a division of Tropical Marine Centre) is the publisher of the English language version of the "Marine Fish Families Series" of books and also distributes a range of other fishkeeping and aquatic titles, for both the beginner and the more advanced aquarist. This new 50K Metal Halide lamp was developed by Eye Iwasaki in conjunction with a Japanese aquatic organisation and the objective was to produce a lamp which could replicate sunlight through water and assist in the growth of corals, as well as being ideal for tropical fish used to high levels of sunlight. This double ended, 50000K metal halide lamp is available in 150W rating. 8th October 2004 - New Additives from Tropic Marin
Tropic Marin has added two new products to its range of additives: Elimi-Aiptas and Pro-Coral Cure.
Elimi-Aiptas removes Aiptasia anemones and other unwanted cnidarians which arrive in the aquarium on live rock or newly purchased corals. Once in the aquarium they spread quickly and are difficult to remove mechanically. Corals and other sessile inhabitants get stung and killed by these pest anemones. For this reason, it is important to control them early with Tropic Marin Elimi-Aiptais. Tropic Marin Elimi-Aiptais is effective against Aiptasia anemones and other unwanted cnidarians. It is easy to inject into the Aiptasia anemone at its base with the included syringe. Elimi-Aiptais is quick and reliable with no effect on water chemistry and is available in a 50ml bottle.
Pro-Coral Cure is an Iodine preparation to treat parasitic and microbial diseases of corals. In many aquariums, parasites and microbial diseases can appear on new corals, especially Acropora, that are weakened and stressed by transport. Due to the lack of natural enemies, these parasites and diseases propagate and spread quickly in the aquarium. Since they are almost invisible to the naked eye the parasites are only noticed when damage is already substantial. Therefore it is recommended to preventively treat all newly purchased Acropora corals with Pro-Coral Cure and to apply Pro-Coral Cure to all corals which have been attacked by flatworms, other parasitic sea spiders (Pantopoda) and microbial diseases. Treatment is carried out by means of a 10-15 minute bath. Pro-Coral Cure is available in a 200ml bottle. 8th October 2004 - TMC Launches Natureform Replica Live Rock
Natureform Replica Live Rock is hand made and hand painted to ensure it is as realistic as possible and with several different replicas of varying sizes the hobbyist can use them on their own or together with natural rock, to create a unique and "true to nature" reef scene. The rocks have been extensively tested to ensure their colour fastness and to make sure they are non toxic and completely safe to use in the aquarium. They are economically priced making them particularly attractive to hobbyists who have fish only systems and do not want to invest in natural live rock. Natureform Rocks range in length from 17cm up to 58cm. |
