Sharks & Rays - Elasmobranch Guide of the World by Ralf M Hennemann

This 305 page guide covers about 250 species of Sharks and Rays, all illustrated with stunning photographs.

"Until just a few decades ago, very little was known about the phylogenetically-old, but very successful group of sharks, rays and chimaeras (ratfishes). Since then, a lot of information has become available on the 1,000 or so living species of cartilaginous fishes.

Naturally, the reef dwellers among them are better known than their deep sea relatives. Hence, the focus of species selection for this unique identification guide has been on those sharks and rays inhabiting shallow water. This makes it an indispensable guide for divers and visitors to public aquaria.

31 May 2001 - Tropical Marine Centre Opens New Site in Manchester

Tropical Marine Centre is pleased to announce the opening of its new site in Wythenshawe, Manchester. Its position - adjacent to junction 3A of the M56 - means it will be easily accessible for trade customers throughout the North of England and Scotland.

"TMC Manchester" as the site is being called, comprises a 2500 sq ft fish holding facility, a 1500 sq ft warehouse for dry goods, and a 750 sq ft admin/sales area. This new site will allow TMC's many trade customers in the north to personally select livestock on a regular basis and collect their dry goods at the same time. The brand new facility which houses the most up to date, state of the art filtration systems, designed by TMC, opened its doors to customers in April.

Customers will benefit from continuity of staff as two key members from the Chorleywood site - Stewart Elsam and Martyn Else (Dorset) - will be based permanently in Manchester. Both Stewart and Martyn have worked with TMC for many years and will be able to ensure that the quality of livestock and the highest level of customer care, for which TMC has always been renowned, will be offered at TMC Manchester.

Paul West, Managing Director of TMC, says "We hope that by opening TMC Manchester we are demonstrating our commitment to our trade customers in the north by offering them the same benefits that our site in Chorleywood has offered to our southern customers for so many years".
